Launched by the Government of India, the Pradhanmantri Awas Yojana scheme operates intending to provide housing with basic amenities to all by 2022. Intending to build 20 million houses by the end of the financial year 2021-22, PMAY has two major components

  • Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban (PMAY-U)

  • Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G)

The PMAY-G is focused on contracting brick and mortar houses for homeless people and those living poor living conditions. And, PMAY-U's objective is to provide affordable housing to those belonging to the economically weaker section that it aims to achieve by following the action points listed below:

Rehabilitating slum dwellers, with private funding support

Providing credit linked subsidy schemes to encourage people to avail of affordable housing

Construction and enhancement of affordable houses for eligible people

Provision of affordable housing through a joint venture between the public and private sectors

What is the Eligibility Criteria for PMAY?

Before knowing how to apply for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, check if you meet its eligibility criteria. You are eligible for PMAY if your annual income belongs to the following four groups:

  • Economically Weaker Section (EWS) – The annual income of the family should not be more than Rs. 3 lakh.

  • Lower Income Group (LIG) – Your annual household income is between. 3 lakh and Rs. 6 lakh.

  • Middle Income Group I (MIG I) – Your annual household income ranges from Rs. 6 lakh to Rs. 12 lakh

  • Middle Income Group-II (MIG II) – Your family's annual income is above Rs. 12 lakh but below Rs. 18 lakh

How to apply for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana online?

Find the category under which you find you're eligible

Then visit the official website: http://pmaymis.gov.in.

Now, click on the Citizen Assessment button given under the main menu and then select the applicant category.

You will be redirected to a different page where you need to fill your Aadhaar details.

Fill the online PMAY application with your personal, income, and bank account details, and current residential address.

Enter the captcha code, verify the details for accuracy, and then submit

Whenever you want, you can track the application status later on by clicking on Track your Assessment Status under Citizen Assessment.

How to apply for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana under the Slum Dwellers category?

To access PMAY benefits under the Slum Dweller category, follow the steps given below:

Log in to the official Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana at pmaymis.gov.in

Choose the For Slum Dwellers option in the Citizen Assessment dropdown

Enter your Aadhaar number and click on the submit (Now, the site will verify whether the Aadhaar details provided is correct).

If the information provided is correct, you will be land to the next page where you will have to provide all the pertinent information related to your name, income, number of family members, contact details, age of the head of the family, residential address, religion, caste and the more.

After you fill all the information, scroll down, type the captcha code in the box and click on the submit button.

How to Apply for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Offline?

If you are getting tough to apply for the PMAY scheme online, go for offline, here is the process:

Visit the nearest Common Service Center, operated by your respective State Government or Union Territory Government. You can also visit any bank listed under PMAY scheme.

Collect and fill up the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana form

Submit the duly filled form with the vital documents at the respective Common Service Centre or the respective bank.

An application fee of Rs. 25 along with GST will be charged if you wish to opt for the offline process.
