Ar. Dr. Shivani Modi - CEO & Co-Founder - Auravialiving
The idea of home has changed profoundly over the past decade. Once defined by status and scale, it is now shaped by lifestyle, wellbeing and a stronger relationship with the environment. Homeowners are seeking spaces that are healthier, more sustainable and designed to enrich everyday living. Behind this shift lies a broader change in the way people define quality of life. Homes are no longer expected to impress only through scale or aesthetics; they are expected to improve everyday living. Wellness, energy efficiency, flexible spaces and a stronger connection with nature are becoming as important as design itself. For architects, the conversation has shifted from designing impressive homes to designing meaningful spaces that respond to changing lifestyles as thoughtfully as they respond to changing climates.
It is within this changing landscape that Ar. Dr. Shivani Modi, CEO & Co-Founder of Auravialiving, has built her professional identity. Rather than viewing architecture as the art of constructing buildings, Ar. Dr. Shivani Modi approaches it as a way of improving everyday life. As she says, “Every home tells a story, and I wanted to create spaces that feel meaningful, elegant and connected to the people who live in them.” It is this belief that shapes every project undertaken by Auravialiving.
Known as the “Masters of Sustainable Residential Architecture,” Auravialiving has built its presence around an approach where architecture, interiors and construction work as one cohesive process. Rather than treating sustainability as an added feature, the firm integrates it into every stage of design, combining contemporary lifestyles with Indian architectural wisdom to create homes that are thoughtful, enduring and deeply connected to the people who live within them.
Long before she founded Auravialiving, Ar. Dr. Shivani Modi was fascinated by the way spaces influence human behaviour. She understood that architecture was never just about walls, roofs or structural systems. A well-designed home shapes daily routines, encourages interaction, creates moments of calm and quietly becomes part of a family’s memories. That understanding inspired her to pursue architecture as both a creative discipline and a meaningful responsibility.
Ar. Dr. Shivani Modi’s perspective on residential architecture has been shaped by three complementary disciplines—design, sustainability and business leadership. She laid her architectural foundation at CEPT University, where she developed a strong understanding of contextual design and spatial planning. Determined to deepen her understanding of environmentally responsible architecture, she pursued a Master’s in Sustainable Architecture from SPA Delhi before complementing her creative education with an MBA from CCS University. Together, these experiences equipped her not only to design homes, but also to build an organisation capable of delivering them from concept to completion.
Experience across residential, hospitality and construction projects further broadened her understanding of architecture beyond design. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams allowed her to understand every stage of the design-build journey—from conceptual planning and client consultations to site supervision, vendor coordination and project delivery. It reinforced a lesson that continues to guide her work today: outstanding architecture depends as much on disciplined execution as it does on creative vision.
From the outset, the firm was envisioned as far more than an architectural practice. Ar. Dr. Shivani Modi recognised that many homeowners struggled with fragmented project delivery, where architects, interior designers, contractors and consultants often worked independently, resulting in gaps between design intent and final execution. Auravialiving was created to bridge that divide.
Today, Auravialiving brings architecture, interiors, construction and turnkey execution under one integrated framework. Rather than handing projects from one consultant to another, the firm accompanies clients through every stage, from the first conversation and concept sketches to construction, finishing and final handover. This seamless approach allows ideas conceived during the design phase to remain intact throughout execution while offering clients a more transparent and coordinated experience. Auravialiving’s philosophy,
You Dream, We Make,” reflects its integrated approach to design and execution. “We believe interiors are not just about decoration; they are about lifestyle. Every space should reflect the people who live in it.”
-Ar. Dr. Shivani Modi
Every client arrives with a different vision of home. Rather than applying a signature style, the firm responds to individual lifestyles, whether designing a contemporary villa, a traditional residence or a modern family home. This client-centric philosophy has enabled Auravialiving to build a diverse portfolio spanning luxury villas, bungalows, farmhouses, premium apartments, high-rise residences, offices and hospitality spaces, united by one consistent belief: good design should always be personal, purposeful and enduring.
For Ar. Dr. Shivani Modi, architecture and interior design are inseparable, together shaping how a home is experienced every day. A residence cannot succeed if architecture and interiors are conceived independently; together they influence how people move through spaces, interact with one another and experience comfort. At Auravialiving, both disciplines evolve simultaneously, ensuring every home functions as one complete living experience rather than a collection of individual design decisions.
To Ar. Dr. Shivani Modi, interiors are never an afterthought. “I believe interiors are not only about beauty but also about comfort, lifestyle, functionality and personal expression,” she says. They are where architecture becomes deeply personal. Colours, textures, materials, lighting and spatial planning are not selected simply for visual appeal but to reflect the personalities, routines and aspirations of the families who will live within those spaces. Every design decision contributes to an environment that feels intuitive, comfortable and unmistakably personal.
Every project begins with understanding the client’s lifestyle, routines and aspirations before a single sketch is prepared. A young couple planning their first home approaches space differently from a multi-generational family. A weekend farmhouse serves a different purpose from a city residence. Some clients prioritise entertainment spaces, while others value privacy, natural light or flexible rooms that evolve with changing needs. These conversations become the foundation upon which every design decision is built.
Once the vision is clearly understood, Auravialiving develops concept plans, space layouts, mood boards and material palettes that translate ideas into tangible possibilities. Design discussions are supported by detailed drawings and 3D visualisations, allowing clients to experience their future homes before construction begins. This collaborative approach ensures that expectations remain aligned while reducing uncertainty during execution.
Design, however, is only half the journey. For Ar. Dr. Shivani Modi, a concept holds little value unless it can be executed with the same level of precision with which it was imagined. Once designs are finalised, Auravialiving moves into detailed drawings, budgeting, vendor coordination, procurement, construction planning and continuous site supervision. Every stage is carefully managed to preserve the integrity of the original vision, ensuring that what is eventually built reflects exactly what was conceived. This emphasis on execution ensures creativity never comes at the expense of quality.
While residential design trends continue to evolve, Ar. Dr. Shivani Modi has little interest in creating homes that belong to a particular moment. Rather than following short-lived trends, Auravialiving creates timeless homes through natural materials, handcrafted details and enduring finishes. Modern planning is balanced with Indian design sensibilities, allowing homes to feel sophisticated without becoming impersonal.
This connection to Indian architectural traditions is visible throughout her work. Elements such as exposed brick, natural stone, terracotta, timber, courtyards, verandahs, skylights and traditional jalis frequently appear in her projects. These elements are chosen as much for performance as appearance, improving ventilation, daylight, privacy and the home’s connection to its surroundings. Together, these features create homes that feel contemporary while remaining deeply rooted in their cultural context.
This philosophy also allows Auravialiving to respond differently to every project it undertakes. A luxury villa, an urban residence, a farmhouse and a hospitality project each demand a different architectural response, shaped by their purpose, setting and occupants. Rather than imposing a signature style across every commission, the firm adapts its design approach to the people, purpose and context of each project.
Sustainability is the foundation of Auravialiving’s work. As Ar. Dr. Shivani Modi puts it, “Sustainability is at the core of our design decisions. We focus on natural light, ventilation, energy efficiency, water-conscious planning, local materials and greenery to create healthier and more responsible spaces.”
This approach reduces dependence on artificial systems while creating healthier living environments that are both environmentally responsible and emotionally connected to nature. In her view, sustainability is what allows a home to remain relevant for decades to come.
Technology is becoming an increasingly influential force in residential design, and Ar. Dr. Shivani Modi welcomes its possibilities with a balanced perspective. Tools such as 3D visualisation have transformed the way clients engage with the design process, allowing them to experience spaces long before construction begins. Smart home systems and automation are making homes more efficient, secure and convenient, while AI-powered tools are helping architects explore layouts, material combinations and design alternatives with greater speed.
Yet, despite these advancements, she believes technology should remain an enabler rather than the driving force behind architecture. “We use technology as a support system, while keeping human creativity, client lifestyle and practical execution at the centre of every project,” she says. That balance reflects Auravialiving’s belief that innovation should enhance, not replace good design.
As Auravialiving has grown, so too has Ar. Dr. Shivani Modi’s understanding that meaningful change in architecture cannot be achieved by one practice alone. She increasingly sees herself as someone contributing to the growth of the wider construction and design ecosystem. For her, the future of architecture depends not only on individual firms but also on stronger collaboration between the many professionals who shape the built environment.
This belief inspired her to establish Construction Circle, where she serves as Founder and President. Conceived as a networking platform for architects, interior designers, contractors, consultants, suppliers and construction professionals, the initiative aims to create opportunities for collaboration, knowledge sharing and business growth. By bringing together people from different areas of the industry, Construction Circle encourages partnerships that strengthen both professional capabilities and project outcomes. Her entrepreneurial vision also extends to Plinth Stand, an execution-focused initiative that reinforces the importance of integrating design with implementation. Together, these ventures reflect a broader understanding of the construction industry—one where successful projects rely on coordinated systems rather than isolated expertise.
This collaborative philosophy is equally evident in the way she leads Auravialiving. She believes that architecture is ultimately a team effort. Architects, engineers, interior designers, contractors, craftsmen and project managers all contribute to transforming an idea into a finished home, and effective leadership lies in bringing these disciplines together around a common purpose. Her leadership style combines creativity with discipline. She encourages innovation while maintaining rigorous attention to detail, recognising that even the most imaginative concepts must withstand the realities of construction, budgets and timelines. This balance has enabled Auravialiving to build a culture where design excellence is supported by accountability, ensuring that every project reflects both creative ambition and operational precision.
Recognition has naturally followed this journey. Ar. Dr. Shivani Modi has been honoured as an FSIA Star Awardee, received The Great Company Award for Best Architect for Sustainable Home, and has been recognised as Superwoman of 2026 – Great CEO. While these accolades acknowledge her contribution to sustainable residential architecture and entrepreneurial leadership, she views them as encouragement to continue raising the standards of design and execution rather than as milestones that define success.
Looking ahead, she believes residential architecture will become increasingly personalised, sustainable and technology-enabled. Homeowners will continue to seek spaces that balance comfort with environmental responsibility, while architects will be expected to deliver solutions that remain relevant over changing lifestyles and future generations.
Auravialiving’s own vision reflects this evolution. The firm aims to expand its presence across luxury residences, villas, farmhouses, hospitality and lifestyle projects while remaining committed to the principles that have guided it from the beginning—thoughtful planning, sustainable architecture, integrated execution and design that places people at its centre.
Her advice to young architects remains practical. “Build a strong foundation in design, materials, space planning and execution. Creativity is important, but practical knowledge, site understanding and client communication are equally essential. Keep learning and stay updated with trends and technology, but also develop your own design identity,” she says. “Most importantly, design with honesty, responsibility and respect for the client’s lifestyle, budget and trust.”
For young architects and interior designers entering the profession, Ar. Dr. Shivani Modi offers advice shaped by experience rather than theory. Creativity, she believes, is only the starting point. Lasting success comes from understanding materials, construction techniques, project execution and, above all, the people for whom every space is created. She encourages emerging professionals to remain curious, embrace new technologies and continually refine their craft while developing a design identity rooted in honesty, responsibility and respect for the client’s trust.
In many ways, Ar. Dr. Shivani Modi’s journey mirrors the changing direction of India’s residential architecture industry. As homes become more intelligent, environmentally conscious and deeply personal, the architect’s role extends far beyond designing attractive buildings. It involves creating spaces that nurture well-being, strengthen relationships and respond thoughtfully to the environment.
"Design is not only about creating beautiful spaces; it is about creating better living experiences. We believe every space should reflect the people who live in it.”
-Ar. Dr. Shivani Modi
In an industry often defined by what is visible, Ar. Dr. Shivani Modi’s work is a reminder that the true value of architecture lies in what is experienced every day. Through Auravialiving, she continues to demonstrate that the finest homes are not measured by scale or spectacle but by the quality of life they create. They are homes that breathe with their surroundings, evolve with the families who inhabit them and remain meaningful long after they are built.
