Good Health Means Good Business

Business leaders are an essential part of creating a culture of health. Without their participation, even the most well-planned corporate wellness programs will fizzle.

As I gathered my thoughts to write this article, I was reminded of a statement from the late John F. Kennedy where he stated that the word "crisis" in Chinese is composed of two characters—one representing danger, the other an opportunity.

While Kennedy may not have been entirely correct on the linguistics, but the sentiment is just right: a crisis presents a choice.

This is so true on World Health Day. The day presents us with a choice to embrace and raise awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle. So here I am, penning down my thoughts to promote the benefits of a healthy body and a healthy world.

Why should entrepreneurs and business leaders care?

A healthy lifestyle covers everything from doing physical exercise to eating right to spiritual habits. All this combined creates a harmonious relationship between the body and the mind.

C-suite leaders are under tremendous pressure to drive business growth, improve customer experience, create shareholder value, etc. They need to eliminate unnecessary distractions and get away from everyday stress.

Good health also means good business. Business leaders are an essential part of creating a culture of health. Without their participation, even the most well-planned corporate wellness programs will fizzle.

Sometime back, I interacted with Sonali Sardana, Global Wellness Lead at Concentrix, which was recently ranked as the fourth best place to work in India for 2021. According to Sonali, wellness leaders should not look at employee well-being as a means to an end but by adding value to their lives.

Healthy planet, healthy people

The 2022 theme for World Health Day is "Our Planet, Our Health." The theme is apt in today's scenario, and it calls for a clear focus on the interconnectedness between the planet and our health.

Studies suggest that a green and safe environment is conducive to mental health as it reduces stress and brings in cognitive restoration. This is especially required for people who have been working from home since the onset of the pandemic.

Recently, twenty business leaders from India signed a statement that is a 'call to action' that outlines priorities for repurposing business activity to stimulate green growth and create a more resilient India in the economic recovery required in the wake of the Covid- 19 pandemic.

We at Fitgenix have been promoting and working towards the short- and long-term health benefits that companies can achieve. The intent is to see healthier, more motivated, and more productive employees with long-lasting good health and happiness at work.

It is essential that both businesses and the environment WIN in this new world.
