Mumbai, India, March 5th, 2025: Ary Satish has established himself as a revelation in contemporary theater. In 2023, Off-Broadway audiences were treated to an electrifying theatrical experience of Le Bijou de Paris at the prestigious Chain Theatre in Manhattan, NYC.

Under the deft direction of Edoardo Tesio - director and co-founder of the internationally renowned theatre company, “Company della Luna” - the production emerged as one of the season’s most compelling performances. Now fresh from their triumph at the world renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival - the world’s biggest theatre festival - Company della Luna had showcased their standout performer, Ary Satish, an Indian actor whose performance in the lead role was nothing short of exuberant.

The Chain Theatre, a venue celebrated for its artistic excellence and commitment to innovative storytelling, provided the perfect backdrop for this production. Known for being a Queens Kudos Award-winning theater, The Chain Theatre has worked with Tony winning playwright David Rabe and produced plays by Tony and Pulitzer winning playwright Arthur Miller and multiple Obie and Pulitzer winning playwright Sam Shepard.

Company della Luna is well known for their critically acclaimed theater shows such as La Belle Époque, which had been selected by the New York Theater Festival to be performed as part of the Fall & Winter 2022 season. They are also known for their theater show Vanity - which obtained an especially positive review in Broadway World, where it was called “outstanding” - and for their glowing reviews from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, receiving 4+ stars from various theatre critics including Fernyhough Arts Review, Counter Culture and Scottish Field. They predominantly strive to create theatre that is empowering and entertaining across the world, now having worked with over a hundred artists, performers, and designers coming from fourteen different countries and scheduled upcoming performances in the US, the UK, and Italy. Ary Satish, enlivened the company with his strong performance as a lead actor in Le Bijou de Paris.

The production’s success was undeniable. Night after night, sold-out crowds of over 200 attendees filled the seats, drawn in by the magnetic performances and gripping narrative. The production captivated the spotlight, earning widespread acclaim across major publications, including Broadway World, Theater Scene, Lavender After Dark, All Arts, Theater Mania, Stage Whisper Podcast, StageBuddy and more. Yet, beyond the impressive numbers and widespread coverage, what truly set this production apart was the sheer depth of its performances, particularly that of Satish.

Le Bijou De Paris is a pop theatre show that narrates the tale of a fashion boutique housing eleven living mannequins. It is like a pun on the meaninglessness of wars and how they are hiding in the boutique, as they fear being captured and killed. The stage was filled with electrifying pop music and dance and required the utmost energy to portray the emotions evoked during the scene.

Ary’s impact on the global theater landscape extends beyond this production. With experience spanning prestigious international venues, he has since brought a fresh artistic perspective to Indian theater. Productions such as Le Bijou de Paris have served as vehicles for him to infuse Indian stagecraft with a level of sophistication rarely seen before, redefining the possibilities for theatrical storytelling in the country.

His portrayal was a masterclass in emotional depth and nuanced storytelling. Ary seamlessly blended his extensive international training with an innate ability to connect with audiences on a profoundly personal level. His performance was praised by award-winning American theatre critic Jed Ryan, in his acclaimed arts and entertainment magazine Lavender After Dark, for its raw intensity and layered complexity. Ryan's incisive theater criticism, cultural commentary, and photography have earned him widespread recognition, including The Stonewall Society Pride in the Arts "Reviewer of the Year" Award in 2005 and the Pride in the Arts "MOJO" Award in 2010. In accordance with Ryan’s critique, it is evident that there was a palpable authenticity to Satish’s craft, a delicate balance between control and spontaneity that few actors achieve so effortlessly.

Satish’ journey from performing theatre in India and Sri Lanka to the esteemed stages of New York and back to India, exemplifies the boundless potential of cross-cultural artistic exchange. With his recent sold-out performances here in Mumbai, India—with Kyun Queer, The Metamorphosis, and True West—it’s evident that he has not only brought a high professional standard from overseas but also garnered a dedicated fan following as well. His commitment to his craft and ability to transcend cultural barriers make him a force to be reckoned with in the theater world, and his work will undoubtedly continue to inspire Indian and Indian-American actors and audiences alike for years to come.
