WHY MOST OF THE CORPORATE EXECUTIVES ARE UNHEALTHY AND OVERWEIGHT IN INDIA?

Recently, a health and fitness app HealthifyMe released a report on Fitness Levels of Corporate India; according to this report at least 63% of executives in India are overweight with a body mass index (BMI) greater than 23. Data from the research says that it may lead to lifestyle-related health disorders and poor health.

.

The study kept close eyes the diet and activity levels of close to 60,000 working professionals across 20-plus companies. It was done across professionals in the age group of 21 to 60 from factory workers, IT professionals, sales professionals, bankers and others in major corporate cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, and remote locations include Jhagadiya, Vapi, and Khandala by reviewing their diet and lifestyle.

Major Reason

The worst unhealthy habit among corporate professionals is taking quick snacks that contain a lot of fat and carbohydrates. While breakfast provides 29.8% of energy contribution of fat, lunch provides 25.62%, and dinner provides 25.90% fat. But this snack provides 33.71% of fat.

This study also discovers an unknown fact that executives are less active and avoid workout during weekends. On average, their daily workout drops from 300 to 250 when they are on leave.

This is really a critical issue that so many workers across industries are unhealthy and overweight. With people spending half of their lives in workplaces, it is time for companies to step up and take responsibility for the health and fitness of their teams. It would not only bring a better workplace – but also a happier, more focussed and productive team.
