Thackeray is married to Rashmi Thackeray and is a parent to two sons, Aaditya and Tejas. Rashmi Thackeray, formerly Rashmi Patankar, currently holds the role of editor at Saamana and Marmik. She is the daughter of Madhav Patankar, who manages a family business and hails from a middle-class background while also being a member of the RSS. 

She originally resided in the suburban area of Dombivli and earned her Bachelor of Commerce degree from V G Vaze College in Mulund. In 1987, she commenced her career at the Life Insurance Corporation of India as a contract employee. Her introduction to Uddhav Thackeray was facilitated through her friendship with Jaywanti, the sister of Raj Thackeray. This connection eventually led to her marriage to Uddhav Thackeray in 1989. 

The elder son, Aaditya, currently serves as the President of the Yuva Sena and has previously held the role of Cabinet Minister, overseeing the Tourism and Environment portfolios for the Government of Maharashtra. Conversely, the younger son, Tejas, is dedicated to the cause of Indian conservation and is actively engaged in wildlife research.
