Dr. Anjani Kumar Agarwal - MD & CEO - AGARWALPACKERS.IN (DRS Group)
For decades, household relocation in India remained largely unorganised, fragmented, and uncertain, leaving customers worried about damaged belongings, delayed deliveries, and unreliable service standards. In an industry where trust mattered as much as transportation itself, building a professional and dependable relocation ecosystem was a challenge few attempted to solve at scale.
Among the leaders who transformed this landscape is Dr. Anjani Kumar Agarwal, MD & CEO of DRS Group and the visionary behind the growth of Agarwal Packers and Movers – Bade Bhaiya into one of India’s most trusted relocation brands. Since joining the family business in 1993, he has played a defining role in establishing industry benchmarks in packing, moving, warehousing, and customer service, bringing greater structure, innovation, and professionalism to India’s relocation sector.
The foundation of Agarwal Packers and Movers – Bade Bhaiya was laid in 1984 by Sri Dayanand Agarwal, affectionately known as “Bade Bhaiya”, whose entrepreneurial vision and determination transformed a modest transport venture into one of India’s most recognised relocation brands. Beginning with a single truck under the name ‘Agarwal Tempo Transport of India’, he steadily expanded the business through hard work, operational discipline, and an unwavering commitment to customer trust and service reliability.
Over the years, the company evolved into DRS Group and eventually into DRS Dilip Road Lines Ltd., an NSE-listed entity with a strong nationwide presence. Even today, Sri Dayanand Agarwal continues to guide the organisation with the same spirit of dedication and growth that shaped its early years.
In the mid-1990s, Dr. Anjani Kumar Agarwal and Sanjay Agarwal joined the family business, bringing fresh perspectives and strengthening the company’s ability to adapt to changing market dynamics. Their combined efforts helped transform challenges into opportunities, further expanding the company’s scale, operational capabilities, and industry leadership. Reflecting on this journey, Dr. Agarwal believes that there could have been “no bigger B-school than our own business”, highlighting the invaluable lessons learned through hands-on experience and perseverance.
Today, the company has successfully relocated over two million homes and serves a diverse clientele that includes defence personnel, banking professionals, government officials, and employees from the IT and corporate sectors. With a network covering over 1,200 destinations across India and international relocation services extending to nearly 100 countries, the organisation has established itself as a trusted leader in the relocation industry.
Driven by structured systems and operational excellence, the company today functions through detailed SOPs and standardised processes, supported by nearly 3,000 direct and indirect workforce members. Its strong branch network, extensive reach, and high service safety standards continue to reinforce its reputation for reliability, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
The company’s continued growth in a highly competitive and rapidly evolving industry has been driven by the dedication of its workforce and the trust placed in the brand by its customers over the years. This strong foundation of service, reliability, and customer confidence continues to distinguish Agarwal Packers and Movers in the relocation sector.
After completing his management degree in 1993, Dr. Anjani Kumar Agarwal, prominently known as AK, joined his family’s goods relocation business with a clear focus on strengthening and professionalising the household shifting segment.
Over the years, his strategic vision and commitment to service excellence played a key role in shaping Agarwal Packers and Movers into a nationally recognised brand known for quality, reliability, and customer trust. Under his leadership, the company also expanded its warehousing and logistics infrastructure, developing over two million square feet of storage capacity across the country.
Dr. Agarwal strongly believes that leadership is not about “Title and Position” but about “Action and Example.” He believes in leading through responsibility, discipline, and involvement, both in business and social commitments, while consistently encouraging teams to learn from challenges and keep moving forward.
With a leadership philosophy rooted in integrity, teamwork, and service, he consistently attributes success to collective effort and leads by example. Beyond business, he has actively contributed to society through various leadership roles, including serving as President of the Hyderabad Goods Transport Association, President of the All India Transporters Welfare Association (South), President of Agarwal Samaj Telangana, and President of Hyderabad Nagarik Sangh. Presently, he serves as the Executive President of the All India Transporters Welfare Association. Guided by a simple yet powerful philosophy, Dr. Agarwal believes, “The highest reward for a person’s toil is not what they get for it, but what they become by it.”
Innovation - Special arrangement for moving wedding goods to destination
While strengthening Agarwal Packers and Movers and DRS Group, Dr. Agarwal also diversified into multiple sectors with a focus on long-term value creation and social impact.
Recognising education as an important pillar of national development, he, along with his family members, established DRS International School in 2003. This was followed by the launch of the “Edify” network of preschools and K-12 schools through MDN Edify Education Pvt. Ltd. Established in 2009, the Edify network today includes around 65 schools across the country, contributing to the education of nearly 36,000 students through future-focused learning initiatives.
Beyond education, Dr. Agarwal also expanded into the real estate sector, delivering residential projects and collaborating with IRA Builders on major developments, including premium high-rise and villa projects in Telangana. His commitment to social responsibility led to the establishment of the DN Welfare Trust in 2012, created to support employees and their families through initiatives related to healthcare, education, and welfare. Supporting over 3,000 employees and their families, the trust reflects his belief in building institutions that grow alongside the people associated with them.
Innovation has also remained a key focus area for the organisation. In 2015, the company introduced the “Chapp Van”, an innovative composite vehicle designed to transport cars, household goods, artefacts, plants, and pets together in a single trip. The concept was developed to make relocation more convenient and efficient for customers by reducing the need for multiple transport arrangements during shifting.
Over the years, the contributions of Dr. Agarwal and DRS Group have been recognised through several milestones and industry accolades. The company’s innovative “Chapp Van” initiative earned recognition in the Limca Book of Records in 2016 while also receiving the Best Innovation Award from the Institute of Supply Chain Management. In 2018, the company was further acknowledged with a World Book of Records certificate for its innovative vehicle design.
The same year also marked an important business milestone as DRS Dilip Roadlines Limited became a public limited company and was listed on NSE Emerge. Strengthening its logistics infrastructure further, the company also added nearly 1.3 million square feet of warehousing space in Hyderabad.
Continuing its focus on technology-driven operations, the organisation introduced online vehicle tracking systems and digital claim submission processes in 2020 to enhance customer convenience and operational transparency.
Alongside the organisation’s continued growth and industry recognition, Dr. Agarwal was also conferred with a Doctorate in Business Administration by the University of Maryland, USA, in 2025, in recognition of his contributions to business, education, and social welfare. Leveraging Technology for Future Growth
With markets and customer expectations evolving rapidly, Dr. Agarwal believes that staying relevant requires organisations to continuously adapt to changing technologies and business environments. At DRS Group, this approach has led to the regular integration of technology-driven systems and operational improvements aimed at enhancing efficiency, transparency, and customer experience.
The organisation has implemented several digital initiatives across its operations, including CRM systems, GPS-enabled vehicle monitoring, online tracking facilities, digital claim settlement processes, and field monitoring applications for customer surveys and service coordination. The company also uses official WhatsApp communication systems for last-mile customer updates and follows a zero-cash payment policy through secure digital payment gateways. CCTV surveillance across branches and centralised fleet monitoring further strengthens operational control and service reliability.
Looking ahead, the company is also planning AI-powered programmes to further modernise its operations and improve overall efficiency. Dr. Agarwal believes that introducing necessary technological changes periodically is essential for sustainable growth in a fast-changing business environment.
For Dr. Agarwal, challenges are a natural part of business. He believes every challenge provides an opportunity to study the issue, understand it better, and find solutions that contribute to the growth and improvement of the organisation. This practical approach has helped DRS Group adapt to changing business environments and continue moving forward steadily.
At the same time, he believes the relocation industry is entering a challenging phase. While employee transfers across banks, PSUs, MNCs, and government departments continue to rise, the overall volume of goods being transported is gradually reducing, impacting industry revenues. Another major challenge for the sector is the availability of skilled manpower, particularly trained packers, making workforce development and specialised training increasingly important for the future of the industry.
Alongside strengthening its domestic presence, Agarwal Packers and Movers has steadily expanded its international reach through partnerships in over 100 countries and membership of the International Association of Movers (IAM), a global network for relocation and moving companies. From customs clearance to local delivery support, the company today provides end-to-end international relocation solutions across global markets.
With a long-term vision of becoming a global leader in the relocation industry, the organisation continues to focus on expanding its international footprint and strengthening its logistics capabilities worldwide. The company also aims to open offices in different parts of the world, explore strategic acquisitions in the logistics and relocation sector, and bring multiple logistics verticals under one roof to provide seamless and hassle-free services to customers.
As the organisation continues to expand its horizons, it remains focused on innovation, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence while working towards establishing a stronger global presence in the relocation and logistics industry.
