Legal is one such profession where trust takes years to build, and reputation is often carried forward through generations of sincere work and commitment towards justice. The story of Inamdar Advocates traces back to 1925, when Mr. Bhailalbhai Brahmbhatt first began practising law with dedication and integrity. He laid the foundation of a legacy that would continue through generations connected with advocacy, judiciary, and public service. Today, the firm carries that legacy forward while adapting to the evolving needs of modern legal practice through a client-centric and solution-oriented approach.

Over the decades, the Inamdar family’s association with the legal profession continued to strengthen through meaningful contributions across different areas of law and public service. Mr. Gopinathbhai Brahmbhatt, father of Aratiben Inamdar, served with distinction as a district judge, Gujarat High Court registrar, and charity commissioner for the state of Gujarat. Continuing this longstanding tradition, Aratiben Inamdar and Jaiminbhai Inamdar established Inamdar Advocates with a vision rooted in ethical advocacy, transparency, and responsibility towards clients and society alike.

Four Generations of Advocacy

The foundation of the firm is deeply connected with the personal journeys and family values of those behind it. While Aratiben Inamdar belonged to a distinguished family with generations associated with the legal profession, Jaiminbhai Inamdar came from a family of freedom fighters where values of courage, service, and standing up for what is right were deeply ingrained. The coming together of these two legacies, one rooted in law and the other in public service and patriotism, eventually became the basis upon which Inamdar Advocates evolved over the years.

The legal legacy has now extended into the next generation as well. Their daughter, Shrilraja Inamdar, has emerged as an accomplished legal professional with extensive academic and professional exposure. A B.A. L.L.B degree holder, she graduated as a gold medallist from the Faculty of Law, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. She further pursued advanced postgraduate studies in international law, including a double master’s in International Trade Law and Finance Law from O.P. Jindal Global University, studied International Arbitration Law at Indiana University, USA, and International Human Rights Law and International Politics at Yale University, USA. Reflecting her growing engagement with the global arbitration landscape, she was recently inducted as a member of the Young Singapore International Arbitration Centre (YSIAC).

Over the years, she has built considerable experience across litigation and legal advisory services, handling matters related to civil law, property and land acquisition disputes, succession and inheritance law, commercial and corporate matters, family law, consumer protection, contract drafting, dispute resolution, and proceedings under the Negotiable Instruments Act. She regularly represents and advises clients in complex litigation, arbitration proceedings, and multi-jurisdictional disputes before various courts, tribunals, and judicial authorities across India, with a commitment to delivering strategic, practical, and client-focused legal solutions.

Continuing this distinguished family tradition further, their son, Shlok Inamdar, is also pursuing a career in law and remains committed to carrying forward the legacy of Inamdar Advocates through dedication, integrity, and excellence in the legal profession. Over the years, he has represented The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda at various academic competitions, earning multiple awards and distinctions while building a strong foundation for the next chapter of the family’s legal journey.

Building on a Trusted Foundation

For firms carrying a longstanding legacy, expectations naturally remain high. While an established reputation creates trust, it also brings with it the responsibility of maintaining that trust through consistent work and professional excellence.

One of the early challenges in the legal profession was building individual credibility while carrying forward a well-established family legacy. While the legacy brought responsibility and expectations, it also required proving our own capabilities through dedication, preparation, and consistent hard work.

Speaking about the early years, Aratiben Inamdar acknowledged that one of the biggest challenges was building individual credibility while carrying forward a respected legacy.

“While the legacy brought responsibility and expectations, it also required proving our own capabilities through dedication, preparation, and consistent hard work.”

Over time, the firm evolved by balancing traditional legal values with a modern and practical approach to legal representation. Rather than limiting itself to conventional litigation practices, Inamdar Advocates steadily expanded its capabilities while maintaining a personalised and client-centric philosophy.

Today, the firm handles matters across a wide range of practice areas, including land acquisition, civil and criminal law, real estate and infrastructure law, corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, commercial contracts, arbitration, dispute resolution, banking and debt recovery, intellectual property and IT employment and labour law, estate and succession matters, trusts and cooperative law, energy law, environmental and mining law, and matters relating to the merchant banking and SARFAESI Act.

The Client-First Philosophy

As legal matters continue to become more complex and dynamic, clients increasingly seek legal advisors who can offer not only technical expertise but also clarity, honesty, and personal attention. These principles remain central to the working philosophy of Inamdar Advocates.

According to Jaimin Inamdar,“What sets Inamdar Advocates apart is its strong legacy of trust, spanning generations, combined with a personalised and client-centric approach to legal practice.”

The firm believes in offering sincere, transparent, and practical legal representation while treating every client’s matter with personal attention, responsibility, and confidentiality. Alongside maintaining high standards of ethics and professional excellence, the firm remains committed to carrying forward the trust earned through four generations of legal practice and dedication towards justice. This approach has played an important role in building long-term relationships with clients over the years.

Trust, particularly within the legal profession, is often shaped by consistency and transparency over long periods of time. Reflecting on how the firm has maintained this trust across generations, Shrilraja Inamdar states,

“We have built long-term trust through honesty, transparency, confidentiality, and consistent dedication towards our clients’ matters. Our generations-long legal legacy has further strengthened the confidence clients place in us.”

Adapting to an Evolving Legal Landscape

India’s legal and judicial system has undergone considerable transformation in recent years with increasing adoption of technology, digital systems, virtual hearings, and evolving legal frameworks. Like many modern law firms, Inamdar Advocates has also adopted these changes to improve efficiency and client service.

The firm continues to stay updated through continuous legal research, study of recent judgements, and regular engagement with legislative developments and evolving legal practices. This commitment towards continuous learning allows the team to offer informed and updated legal representation to clients across diverse sectors and matters.

Technology, too, has become an important part of legal practice today. Discussing its impact, Shrilraja Inamdar shared, “Technology and digital tools have made legal practice faster, more efficient, and client-friendly. Legal research platforms help us stay updated with the latest laws and judgements, while automation and digital systems improve case management, communication, and overall delivery of legal services.”

The growing importance of arbitration and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms is another area the firm views as highly significant within India’s evolving legal environment. According to Inamdar Advocates, the increasing role of arbitration can help reduce the burden on courts while ensuring faster and more efficient dispute resolution.

Law as a Way of Life

For the Inamdar family, advocacy has never remained confined to office spaces or courtroom proceedings alone. The profession has long been woven into their everyday lives and environment.

Speaking about work-life balance within a demanding profession, Shlok Inamdar explained, “We all are a family working together; the office itself becomes a shared space for us. Practising law never truly feels like ‘work’; it is a part of who we are.”

Even beyond professional hours, discussions around legal developments and ideas related to the profession remain a regular part of their family conversations. This deep-rooted connection with law is perhaps one of the strongest factors that continues to shape the culture and continuity of the firm across generations.

Making Justice More Accessible

Access to justice continues to remain one of the most important concerns within India’s legal system, particularly for individuals who lack adequate legal awareness or resources. Inamdar Advocates believes that stronger legal aid systems, simplified procedures, and technology can play an important role in making legal services more accessible and affordable.

The firm also strongly recognises the role of arbitration as a faster and more cost-effective mechanism for dispute resolution, especially at a time when courts across the country remain heavily burdened.

Beyond professional practice, the firm has continued its longstanding tradition of contributing to society through pro bono work and legal assistance for the needy. This commitment towards service has remained consistent across all four generations of the Inamdar family.

Its vision continues to reflect this broader sense of responsibility, not only towards clients but towards society as a whole. The firm aims to ensure that the protections and benefits provided under the legal system reach individuals who are deprived of justice and legal support.

Carrying the Legacy Forward

For young professionals entering the legal field today, the Inamdar family believes that genuine commitment towards law remains essential for long-term success. Their perspective on the profession goes far beyond viewing it simply as a career path.

Sharing their advice for aspiring legal professionals, Aratiben Inamdar said, “My advice to young professionals would be to never view law merely as a profession. To truly excel in this field, one must love the law and develop a genuine passion and commitment towards it.” To which Jaimin Inamdar added, “The client always comes first. At the end of the day, our foremost duty is to protect their interests and stand by them with sincerity, dedication, and responsibility.”

That philosophy perhaps defines the journey of Inamdar Advocates most accurately. What began in 1925 as one man’s commitment towards justice has today evolved into a four-generation legacy shaped by advocacy, ethics, public service, and trust. As the firm continues to evolve with changing legal and judicial landscapes, it remains firmly rooted in the same principles upon which its foundation was first built nearly a century ago.
