Dr. A.V. Srinivasan, a distinguished neurologist from Chennai, stands among India’s most revered figures in the field of neurology. That same year, he was also presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Scientific Laurel, celebrating his leadership and service in medicine. Beyond professional excellence, Dr. Srinivasan is known for his humanitarian commitment. For over 625 weeks, he has offered free consultations, food, and medicines to more than 90,500 patients, reflecting his deep empathy and social responsibility.
An academician of exceptional calibre, he has contributed extensively to the global body of neurological research. With over 125 research papers and conference presentations to his credit, both nationally and internationally, he has consistently advanced the understanding of neurological disorders. He has authored 40 books, including 12 in Tamil and 28 in English, making neurology accessible to students, practitioners, and the public alike.
Dr. Srinivasan also holds the distinction of being the first neurologist to receive a Ph.D. in Neurology from the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. Under his guidance, five neurologists have successfully earned their doctoral degrees. His five-decade-long association with Madras Medical College, as student, professor, head of department, and emeritus professor, reflects his lifelong devotion to medical education. Dr. Srinivasan’s contributions have not been limited to India alone. As President of the Indian Academy of Neurology (IAN) in 2017, he signed a landmark MoU with the Association of Indian Neurologists in America (AINA), creating a new bridge between Indian and international neurological communities and advancing cross-border cooperation in education and research.
