A Visionary Businessman

Rahul Bajaj took the reins of the Bajaj Group in 1965, marking the beginning of a transformative era. Over the span of five decades, he orchestrated significant growth for the group's flagship company, Bajaj Auto. Under his guidance, the company's turnover surged from ₹7.5 crore to a staggering ₹12,000 crore.

One of the standout achievements during his tenure was the remarkable success of the Bajaj Chetak scooter, which played a pivotal role in driving the company's growth. Rahul Bajaj's astute leadership not only elevated the fortunes of Bajaj Auto but also cemented its position as a global player in the automotive industry.

In 2005, Rahul Bajaj stepped down from his operational role, paving the way for his son Rajiv Bajaj to take over as the Group's managing director. However, his influence on the group's direction remained significant. In 2008, he oversaw the split of Bajaj Auto into three distinct units: Bajaj Auto, Bajaj Finserv, and a holding company, streamlining operations for enhanced efficiency.

Throughout his career, Rahul Bajaj assumed numerous key positions, demonstrating his commitment to nation-building and global business.

He served as the chairman of Indian Airlines, chairman of the International Business Council at the World Economic Forum, and chairman of the board at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, among others.

His dedication to the Indian industry earned him the prestigious CII President's Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2017, presented by then-President of India Pranab Mukherjee.
