Considering the changes in fines imposed on people for violating traffic rules along with the fact that many citizens using road transport and highways need to avail many document-related and other services. The transport department or the ministry of road transport of the country have allowed them to save time and hassle by launching an e-document containing government app called mParivahan.
The useful and easy to use application is one of the efficient government mobile apps like digilocker or mparivahan. mParivahan developed by the NIC, can be used to easily access important documents like driving license, vehicle registration certificate, insurance validity, insurance fitness and permit among other things.
Available on both iOS and Android, the app also has a feature to create virtual RC and DL, which is considered an authentic proof. These features allow the users to have eased as one doesn't need to carry original documents for these two. There's also a DL mock test feature in the app for those who want to apply for new driving license.
Well, for starters, the app allows users who are Indian citizens with vehicles to check the basic details of any vehicle by just entering the rvehicle registration number without registering themselves. It saves the unnecessary hassle of keying in your details and allows one to have digital equivalent which is at par with original documents.
The process of creation of the virtual RC or driving licence which has a lengthy process offline requires going through the registration process online which is fairly simple. If you are new to the platform, you can use the phone number and your name for OTP verification and with the app interface being quite easy to navigate with services and information neatly segregated.
While you can create a virtual RC (Registration Certificate) or DL (Driving Licence) through an easy process and can be added to a dashboard, once they are created, you can access them without an internet connection.
These saved RC and DL can be found under the respective dashboards within the app and there's also an option to share the virtual IDs.
For the security of your details, you have to verify them by entering the last four digits of the vehicle's chassis number and the engine number.
You can share your virtual RC with your family or friends who are driving your vehicles and they are acceptable by the traffic police. It means traffic police can no longer harass you if you don't have original papers with you, provided you have the mParivahan app with your virtual RC and DL created as these are valid documents as per IT Act 2000.
While we are at the technology part, the app also generates a QR Code for your virtual RC and DL. Now, this is also very useful as you can download this QR code and save it on your mobiles. If any traffic police officer asks for your papers, you can simply present this QR code, they will scan it and get all the required details.
Locate Your RTO
In addition to all the services, mParivahan app has some other utilities like locating nearest RTO, procedures related to RC and DL among other things.
While one can get in unforeseen situations, the important feature of this app which provides is Emergency Services can come to your rescue. One can create an emergency profile in this section by adding emergency contacts.
A one-touch Emergency button is available on the app's main page can be pressed so that the contacts can be directly notified by a single touch in case of an emergency including Ambulance by one touch in this section.
Since e-Challans are issued nowadays, you can use the Search
Challan feature on mParivahan to search the challans issued against the RC or a DL by simply entering the RC number or DL number.
Presently, you can pay the road tax through this app, if you are from Sikkim. For other states, this service will be available soon. Also, you can reprint the receipt of such transactions through this app.
You can go to Play Store or App Store, search "mParivahan", install and open the app.
On the home page of the app, press three lines on the top left corner of the app and click on Sign In.
Assuming, you are using this app for the first time, click on Sign Up and fill the required registration details.
Enter your mobile number. A new pop up containing the Terms & Conditions will open, read the terms and conditions and if you agree, check the "I have read and agree.." box.
This will be followed by you receiving an OTP, enter that OTP Code and click Verify.
On the next screen, complete your profile by entering your name and then click Sign Up. Now your account is created thus enabling you to use all the features of the app.
