Surat (Gujarat) [India], July 26: Kavita Chauhan’s journey, shaped by her passion and determination, is a source of inspiration for today’s youth, especially women. Getting married at just 18 through a love marriage, and a mother by 19, Kavita’s life took a tragic turn when her husband passed away. Rather than giving up, she channelled her grief into strength, beginning her career as an insurance advisor before gradually building her name in the business world.

Legacy of business from Parsi family

Kavita was born into a Parsi family in Surat. Her father was a banker, and the family owned a poultry farm, giving her an early exposure to business. However, following her marriage, her formal education was left incomplete, and she took on the role of a homemaker. After the birth of her child at 19, she began shouldering more family responsibilities.

Starting as an insurance advisor

Kavita began working as an insurance advisor to support the household income. Her hard work and skills earned her a position at Angel Broking. Later, while working at ING Vysya Bank, she received an offer from Bank of Baroda, marking a turning point in her career. She was promoted and assigned to Gujarat Gramin Bank, where she managed operations from Vapi to Anand. Despite being required to travel hundreds of kilometres and having a demanding schedule, she struck a fine balance between work and home life.

A difficult turn and firm determination

In 2012, Kavita developed a spinal condition, and doctors advised her against long commutes. Her family and friends urged her to resign. Her husband suggested starting a business instead. Kavita ventured into education by opening a school, but also continued her job. But life dealt her a devastating blow that same year when her husband was murdered in a business dispute.

This tragedy shook her deeply, but she did not back down. She pursued justice to ensure punishment for her husband’s killers and fought till the Supreme Court. At the same time, she continued to fulfil her duties as a single mother and nurtured her entrepreneurial dreams.

The success of ‘Move Onn - The Salon’

Kavita’s perseverance eventually bore fruit. She received an opportunity to collaborate with the renowned Head Master Salon, a brand she once frequented as a client. Seizing the opportunity, she took on the challenge with confidence. Later, she launched her own venture under the brand name ‘Move Onn - The Salon’. 

Today, Move Onn is a famous brand in Surat, particularly among well-known families and professionals. Operating from a spacious facility, the salon employs over 45 skilled professionals and is regarded as one of Surat’s premier salon brands.

An inspirational message

Kavita says, “As a single woman, I faced many challenges. But I had decided that I would rise purely on the strength of my will and ability, without depending on anyone else.”

Today, Kavita Chauhan is among the leading women entrepreneurs in Surat and is a role model for many aspiring women and young girls. Her story is living proof that with determination, resilience, and courage, any adversity can be overcome and turned into success.
