PNB's Rakshak Plus Scheme

A Powerful Tribute to India's Bravehearts

Shweta Singh

In an era where financial institutions often make headlines for numbers and profits, Punjab National Bank (PNB) has chosen to make a difference that goes far beyond banking. In a heartwarming display of patriotism and public service, PNB has disbursed ₹17.02 crore to the families of 26 martyrs from the armed and paramilitary forces under its specially designed Rakshak Plus Scheme.

This is not just a financial transaction. It’s a salute to the bravery, sacrifice, and dedication of India’s uniformed forces.

A Gesture Beyond Banking

On June 11, 2025, PNB made national headlines for extending critical financial assistance to the bereaved families of soldiers who lost their lives in high-risk operations, including those in volatile zones like Birli Gali. The Rakshak Plus Scheme, tailored specifically for defence and paramilitary personnel, ensured that these families received timely aid and support.

What is the Rakshak Plus Scheme?

Rakshak Plus is not just another banking product. It is a comprehensive, zero-balance salary and pension account scheme created exclusively for India’s defence, paramilitary, police, and intelligence personnel. The scheme offers unmatched benefits to both serving and retired personnel, and covers a wide network of forces including:

  • Army, Navy, Air Force

  • BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP

  • Police forces in commissionerate cities

  • RAW, IB, CBI

  • Indian Coast Guard, SSB, RPF, NSG, SPG, NDRF, Firefighters

  • Agniveers under the Agnipath scheme

Unparalleled Financial Protection

The real strength of the Rakshak Plus Scheme lies in the robust insurance and benefit structure, which includes:

  • ₹1 crore personal accident insurance cover (serving personnel)

  • ₹1.5 crore air travel accident insurance

  • Additional ₹10 lakh cover for anti-national/terrorist activity-related death

  • Personal accident permanent disability cover up to ₹1 crore

  • Funeral expenses, emergency medical aid, and air ambulance charges

  • Education cover of ₹5 lakh annually for 4 years for two children

  • Girl child marriage support up to ₹10 lakh

  • Concessions on home, car, personal, and education loans

And it doesn't stop at insurance. The scheme offers day-to-day benefits like:

  • Sweep facility and overdraft up to ₹3 lakh

  • Zero balance account for family members

  • Waiver of cash handling charges

  • 25% rebate on locker rent for three years

  • Unlimited free demand drafts/pay orders

PNB's Broader Commitment to Uniformed Personnel

Alongside Rakshak Plus, PNB has also rolled out:

Agni Rakshak Scheme for Agniveers:

  • Personal accident cover of ₹1 crore

  • Air accident cover of ₹1.5 crore

  • Zero balance salary account for Agnipath Scheme employees and their families

Police Rakshak Scheme:

  • ₹40 lakh personal accident cover and ₹80 lakh for air accidents

  • Life insurance of ₹3 lakh

  • Instant cheque credit and free financial services

The Bigger Picture

Behind these numbers lies a message: India stands with its protectors. The Rakshak Plus Scheme is not just about claims and benefits—it's about reassurance. Reassurance that if a soldier lays down their life for the country, their family won’t be left behind. That they will be remembered, honored, and supported.

In doing so, PNB has set an example for both the private and public sectors, proving that national service can and should be supported by every pillar of society.

At its core, Rakshak Plus is about trust. It’s about delivering when it matters most. And above all, it’s about standing shoulder to shoulder with those who protect us.
