Sisco Research Laboratories Pvt. Ltd. (SRL) was founded with a bold vision—to put India on the global map for fine and specialty laboratory chemicals. What started as a small 250 sq. ft. laboratory in the outskirts of Mumbai in India has now grown into a powerhouse of scientific innovation, with over 9,000 products spanning reagents, biochemicals, and organic intermediates. Today, SRL exports to more than 100 countries, works with 130 global distributors, and 800 dealers worldwide, and partners with 300 distributors and 1,550 sub-dealers across India.

At the heart of SRL’s success is its commitment to quality, research, and innovation. “My grandfather, Mr. S.K. Agarwal, founded SRL with a deep sense of patriotism and purpose,” shares Mr. Vikas. “He always believed that Indian scientists shouldn’t have to rely on foreign products. He wanted to create world-class chemicals right here in India.”

With this vision, SRL pioneered the manufacturing of sensitive biochemicals such as amino acids, laying the foundation for what would become one of India’s most trusted names in laboratory chemicals. Now, with four manufacturing locations and bulk production capabilities, SRL continues to push boundaries in scientific research.

With 18 years at Sisco Research Laboratories Pvt. Ltd. (SRL), Mr. Vikas Agarwal has played a key role in driving the company’s growth and innovation. An MBA in Entrepreneurship from the University of Nottingham, UK, he brings a global perspective while staying true to SRL’s legacy.

Overseeing bulk business development, export expansion, infrastructure projects, human resource management, domestic procurement, and brand management, Mr. Vikas ensures that SRL remains a trusted name in laboratory chemicals. “Our brand stands for quality and reliability,” he states. “We equip researchers and industries with the essential tools to drive innovation and discovery.”

SRL was also the first company in India to establish a portfolio of over 300 Nanopowders and Carbon Nanotubes, supporting the country’s growing nanotechnology research sector.

Continuing its commitment to innovation, SRL has recently introduced PAP Pens for Immunohistochemistry and Immunohistopathology applications. One of its latest breakthroughs is SeraPreserve, a non-toxic, non-carcinogenic liquid solution for storing animal and plant tissue samples that is a global replacement for Formalin/Formaldehyde.

Nitrosamines, known for their potential carcinogenic properties, are a major concern in industries like pharmaceuticals, food, and cosmetics. Regulatory bodies such as the US FDA and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) require manufacturers to test for these compounds and declare their presence or absence. “We take great pride in being one of the few companies in India to support our pharmaceutical clients with these critical declarations,” says Mr. Vikas.

But technical knowledge alone is not enough—gaining hands-on experience is just as important. “Work in labs, research institutions, or industry settings. Real-world experience will give you the practical insights you won’t get from textbooks.”

Networking is another key aspect of success. “In biotech, collaborations drive progress. Build relationships, attend industry events, and connect with mentors who can guide you,” he suggests. The industry is highly competitive, and standing out requires more than just expertise. “Develop skills beyond science. Project management, communication, and data analysis can be game-changers in your career.” For those considering entrepreneurship, he encourages taking the leap. “If you have a great idea, go for it. Many biotech startups have transformed the industry. Just be prepared for challenges and embrace them as part of the journey.”
