Neelesh Kurra
The way the business world is evolving, the meaning of leadership has also transformed. Today, leadership is more than just hitting targets or managing teams; it’s about having the foresight to deter from setbacks, adapt to the changing times, and, at the same time, be an inspiration to others to work toward a common goal.
With businesses facing increasing complexities, leaders who can share practical insights and proven strategies play an essential role in guiding others to success. Their experiences become valuable tools for professionals seeking to grow and achieve more in their careers.
One such leader is Neelesh Kurra. Having worked across multiple industries and tackled complex challenges, he has consistently delivered successful outcomes. With experience comes a depth of knowledge, but what good is knowledge if not shared? This realisation led Neelesh to pen his book, ‘Understandings of Effective Business Engagement and Project Management Practices,’ where he shares his insights and strategies for others to learn from and apply in their own professional journeys.
Neelesh is an ambitious and results-driven management professional with over 12 years of experience in business, program and project management, corporate strategy, stakeholder coordination, and vendor management. Throughout his career, he has successfully managed over 30 project engagements across various industries, including telecommunications, healthcare, banking, apparel, government sectors, corporate event organising, and manufacturing.
Neelesh’s expertise lies in driving organisational operations and delivering business value through effective project management practices. In addition to being an author, Neelesh currently serves as an IT Program Manager at MOURITech Inc. in Canada, where he continues to drive organisational success with extensive experience. What Inspired the Writing of ‘Understandings of Effective Business Engagement and Project Management Practices’ Neelesh has always been passionate about administration and management. “I have always been fascinated by understanding the business scope, representing business proposals, finalising work agreements like MSAs and SoWs, and successfully delivering on the agreed-upon scope through effective team management, execution methodologies, and stakeholder management,” he shares. These key areas have always been his driving factors. Throughout his career, Neelesh has observed that most management professionals find it challenging to handle the Business Discovery phases, its associated budget management, and finalising work agreements based on the outputs from this phase. “I realised that these aspects were often the most challenging for many in the field,” Neelesh explains. “This observation motivated me to write my book, “Understandings of Effective Business Engagement and Project Management Practices”. In the book, Neelesh distils his years of management expertise and knowledge of the best practices for business engagement and project management, aiming to provide a roadmap for successful business collaborations between suppliers and customers. “The subject matter expertise represented in the book is not only limited to management professionals in service-based organisations but also to product-driven companies looking to efficiently handle internal product development and customer engagements,” explains Neelesh.
As per Neelesh, the most important qualities of a successful business leader are the ability to guide a company or team toward achieving its objectives, growth, and success. “A successful business leader sets the vision, strategy, and direction for the organisation while inspiring and influencing others to collaborate toward common goals,” Neelesh says.
He believes these key qualities define an effective leader:
Visionary Thinking: The ability to see the big picture and anticipate future trends.
Decision-Making: Making timely and effective choices, even in challenging situations.
Budget Management: Effective budget management and maintaining a sustainable profit in all the program and project engagements of the organisation is essential as financial stability for the organisation and its employees is very important.
Communication: Clearly conveying ideas, motivating teams, and maintaining transparency.
Adaptability: Responding effectively to changes and challenges in the market or environment.
Empathy and Emotional Intelligence: Understanding and supporting the needs of employees, customers, and stakeholders.
When it comes to cultivating these qualities in himself, Neelesh says, “I believe there is always more to acquire and learn from global leaders and management inspirers.” He adds, “I’ve developed these qualities through my continuous engagement with unique project journeys. Each project is different in its own way, with respect to stakeholder management, team coordination, strategic planning and execution, risk management, and budget management.”
Neelesh is open to the idea of being a part of Corporate Management sessions, as long as they do not conflict with his current work engagement agreements. “Yes, I would love to be a part of the Corporate Management sessions as long as they align with my existing work commitments,” Neelesh shares. He is also readily available for professional networking and engagement, stating, “I am available on LinkedIn and will be interactive for any queries or suggestions.”
