#1 Kaseya (Year: 2021)

Kaseya was under attack and fell into the cross hair of cyber criminals. It was 2nd July 2021 when the company was taken, hostage. The main line of work of the company is to provide dynamic IT solutions to emerging companies. “REvil” was the infamous cybercriminal syndicate that claimed responsibility for the attack.

They also demanded a humongous ransom in exchange for keeping secured the sensitive information of the company. It was a multi-million ransom demand at the time of occurrence.

Kaseya was asked to pay a colossal amount of $70 million in Bitcoins. However, the company decided to cooperate with the FBI instead and turned down the ransom demand. The company simply declined to pay the hefty amount and the rest of the matter was administered & controlled by the US Cybersecurity & Infrastructure agency.

#2 JBS (Year: 2021)

Widely renowned as one of the leading suppliers of meat in the United States, JBS was attacked on 31st May 2021 by a bunch of cybercriminals. The attack crippled the ability of the company to operate freely and the operations at the company were completely halted. The company had to cease all the operations that used to be conducted at its 5-largest plants in the country.

The attack didn’t just disrupt the operations in the country but also wreaked havoc on the operations in UK & Australia. The company was forced to pay $11 million as the ransom price to be able to regain access to its hacked data. They had to prevent further decimation of their properties which would eventually reduce the impact on the country’s restaurants & grocery stores.

#3 Colonial Pipeline (Year: 2021)

Now, this company is basically a household name when it comes to refined products in America. The company was forced to go back offline right after they realized that the entire apparatus of the company was under attack.

An infamous cyber syndicate dubbed as “Darkside” had successfully breached the security which enabled them to take control of the company down to its core.

They attacked with ransomware on a company that usually covers almost 5,500 miles & successfully transports over 100 million fuel (In Gallons) almost on a daily basis.

The subsequent impact of the attack was so significant that the overall prices of gas (One Gallon) were increased to beyond $3 which had not been witnessed in the last 7 years and there was a horde of drivers at pumps in the country.

The company eventually had to pay $4.4 million to the attackers in ransom (Bitcoin). However, the law enforcement in the country was able to retrieve $2.3 million later that year.

#4 Brenntag (Year: 2021)

A predominant & established chemical distributor in Germany realized on 28th April 2021 that it has become the latest victim to the infamous and notorious organization “Darkside”.

This notorious syndicate was able to steal a colossal 150 GB of data and threatened the company to leak the data if the demands were not met.

Negotiations ensued right after the attack which didn’t go well in the beginning but the company did manage to bring down the ransom amount to $4.4 million from $7.5 million. The ransom amount was eventually paid on 11th May later that year.

#5 CWT (Year: 2020)

Business travel businesses are common to be caught in the web of cybercriminals and CWT couldn’t evade that. The company got sucked into the attack on 31st July 2020 and the news of the ransomware attack was later revealed by the company itself.

The attack had infected the system and the company had to pay the ransom eventually. The assailants used the “Ragnar Locker” to be able to break into the system. They even managed to access the sensitive information of the company. Later, CWT had to pay a $4.5 million ransom on 28th July to get the control back.
