DISNEY CEO BOB IGER REBRANDS HOTSTAR TO 'DISNEY + HOTSTAR'

Bob Iger, Disney CEO announced officially the launch of Disney+ in India on March 29th as a part of Hotstar in parallel to the start of the Indian Premier League season this year. There have been no talks on the pricing officially, the company is yet to confirm on the subscription plans.

Iger said, "We're excited to announce that we will be launching Disney+ in India through our Hotstar service on March 29th at the beginning of the Indian Premier League cricket season. We will be rebranding our existing Hotstar VIP and Premium subscription tiers to Disney+ Hotstar."

India's one of the most popular video streaming services, Hotstar, also a part of Disney through their acquisition of Fox is all set to add the Disney+ content to its impressive list of existing subjects. The entire catalogue of Disney will be added to Hotstar on March 29th that would incorporate National Geographic, Marvel Cinematic Universe, Disney, Pixar, and the world-renown franchise 'Star Wars'. Disney+ is also looking forward to release its upcoming series later this year from the popular Marvel Studios – Wanda Vision, Loki, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which would all be available at Hotstar for the fans to watch.

The revelation on the pricing for subscription plans is on hold officially through Iger. He has added to sources, "We're not giving specifics about the price at this point but expect that there'll be two primary products brought into India. One will be more premium in nature that will include the entire library, so with the original programming and the other one will be more basic that will have the library and not the original programming."

A Walt Disney subsidiary and owned by Star India, Hotstar came into being in 2014 and in a matter few months it caught the attention of the viewers in India. The statistics of streaming for the brand has been phenomenal and thanks to the flow of matches live and otherwise, the service has hit an all-time peak.

The streaming service had hit 100 million viewers back in 2019, coupled with an exceptional 300 million active users monthly becoming one of the most popular platforms in the country for all cricket formats.
