Every brand has a story, but not every story reaches its rightful audience. In today’s highly competitive marketplace, only the ones with narratives that resonate with the people manage to stand out from the crowd. This is the philosophy that drives Richy D. Alexander, the founder and CEO of Davidson PR & Communications. With a background in journalism and a passion for strategic storytelling, Richy has built an agency that goes beyond traditional public relations. Through Davidson PR & Communications, he has redefined the way brands connect with their audience, ensuring their stories are not just heard but remembered.
Richy D. Alexander’s journey began in journalism, working as a features writer and business journalist in Mumbai with Infomedia18, part of the Network18 group, before moving to the German publication DVV Media. The 2009 recession brought him back to Kerala, where he trained briefly with The New Indian Express in Trivandrum. Surrounded by experienced journalists, he saw an opportunity for a career shift. Encouraged by mentors, he transitioned into PR, first as a PR executive at Thought Factory and later as COO at Salt Mango Tree, one of Kerala’s first digital media agencies.
In 2012, driven by the desire to build something of his own, he founded Davidson PR & Communications. The early years were tough—not just in securing clients but also in overcoming scepticism. PR was largely misunderstood, even among businesses, and there was little support from family and friends who were more familiar with advertising. Educating clients about PR’s deep connection to journalism and its power to shape public perception became an essential part of the journey.
“True to our tagline, we remained ‘positively possible,’ ready to take on any Goliath,” says Richy. He credits the agency’s growth to early clients who placed their trust in them. Today, 98% of their business comes through referrals. What continues to drive Richy is the thrill of crafting campaigns, handling crises, and watching clients grow. That, he says, is what gives him the ‘kick’ to keep pushing forward.
Founded in 2012, Davidson PR & Communications pioneered structured PR for startups in Kerala. From a small 200 sq. ft. space, they have grown into a powerhouse, working with over 400 clients across industries like healthcare, IT, hospitality, and sports. By 2018, they had become an industry expert in handling crisis communication for Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. in Kerala. In 2020, the agency expanded its media reach to major cities, and by 2022, it secured its first government retainer with Kerala IT Parks. Today, Davidson PR manages 11 retainers across regional and national markets.
PR for them is not just press releases; it is powerful storytelling. The agency helps brands find their voice, uncover untold stories, and create lasting impact. With a team of eight, they operate from offices in Panampilly Nagar, Kochi, and Kowdiar, Trivandrum. Their clientele includes KFON, K-SMART, KIMSHEALTH Trivandrum, Apollo Adlux Hospital, Kerala Blasters FC, and more.
“From our brand name, inspired by the story of David who defeated Goliath with a small rock, we are always trying to break challenges with sharp and strategic storytelling techniques,” says Richy. Davidson PR’s vision is to go beyond traditional communication, crafting compelling narratives that establish brand credibility. Its mission is to help brands communicate strategically using industry insights, storytelling, and data-driven PR, ensuring they stay ahead in a competitive market.
Davidson PR & Communications is more than just a PR agency—it’s a dedicated partner in a client’s journey, ensuring their stories are told the way they deserve. The agency offers a range of services, including Corporate Reputation Management, Public Relations, Election & Political Campaigns, Image Building, Crisis Communication, Public Affairs, Advocacy, Content Creation, and Digital Media. Their hands-on approach keeps clients ahead through continuous monitoring, moment marketing, and deep media insight. “PR isn’t just a job; it’s who we are,” emphasises Richy.
What sets Davidson PR apart is its ability to recognise real challenges, identify gaps, and craft effective strategies. Whether working with government clients, corporates, or startups, the agency takes the time to fully understand the complexities of PR and navigate them seamlessly. Their strength lies in storytelling—helping clients build narratives that not only capture media attention but also connect meaningfully with their audiences. They also maintain a crucial balance between journalism and PR, ensuring that every piece of communication aligns with journalistic needs while staying true to the brand’s strategic goals. By integrating the 5 Ws and 1 H in every communication, they provide journalists with exactly what they need, making storytelling both effective and seamless.
Richy shares, “At Davidson PR & Communications, success isn’t just about awards—it’s about creating real impact for our clients.” Every time the agency helps a brand shift public perception, navigate a crisis, or build a stronger media presence, it’s a win. The focus has always been about partnering with brands, empowering them to discover the full power of their narrative, and guiding them through their journey with a sense of purpose.
One of their proudest achievements was positioning Kerala’s hospitality sector on the national stage by highlighting the state’s leadership in five-star hotels. Collaborating with the State Tourism Director, Davidson PR secured national and international media coverage, elevating Kerala’s tourism narrative. Over the years, the agency has also been recognised by PRCI and IRPRA for their outstanding campaigns in arts, sports, and culture, as well as their excellence in media relations.
Adaptability is key at Davidson PR & Communications. Staying ahead in PR means constantly monitoring media trends, refining strategies, and balancing traditional and digital approaches. Strong media relationships and audience insights allow the agency to craft narratives that truly resonate.
The agency’s current focus is on being a ‘regional national agency’ rooted in Kerala while taking brands to the national stage. Instead of expanding geographically, Davidson PR amplifies local voices through national media, bringing recognition to Kerala’s corporate and government achievements. “I am passionate about building a strong PR talent pool. By giving young professionals the right opportunities, we can create a new generation that’s skilled and ready to take this industry forward,” says Richi.
Looking ahead, the agency sees immense potential in regional PR. With more brands realising their impact post-COVID, Davidson PR is positioned to execute high-impact localised campaigns. The team aims to expand its work with government sectors, highlighting their success stories while strengthening its presence in Kerala’s PR landscape.
Advising aspiring PR professionals, Richy shares, “Consume news diligently. Many overlook the true value of media, but to craft impactful stories, you must stay informed. Quick news bites help, but deep reading is key. Research more, read detailed articles—it’s the best way to cut through the noise. If you have a passion for storytelling and the resilience to keep going, this industry will embrace you. If I made it, anyone can!”
