In 2018, Sachin Bansal made headlines with his exit from Flipkart following its acquisition by Walmart. Despite his departure, his contribution to the company's success could not be understated. At the time of the acquisition, Flipkart's valuation had soared to an impressive $20.8 billion.
Bansal held a 5.5 per cent stake in Flipkart, which he sold to Walmart. This strategic move catapulted his net worth to a little over $1 billion, a testament to the enormous impact he had on India's e-commerce industry.
Post-Flipkart, Bansal continued to make waves in the business world. He founded BACQ Acquisitions Private Limited in December 2018, focusing on building and acquiring technology-driven businesses across diverse industry verticals. He also ventured into investment, backing numerous early-stage startups and contributing to their growth.
One of his notable investments was a $100 million infusion into Ola Cabs, which granted him a stake of 0.37 per cent in the company. This demonstrated his commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in India's startup ecosystem.
Sachin Bansal's entrepreneurial journey took an exciting turn with the founding of Navi Technologies, a financial services company that aims to provide accessible financial solutions to the masses. In March 2020, his wife, Priya Bansal, filed a dowry harassment case against him, making allegations of physical and sexual assault, as well as property transfer pressures. These allegations also extended to include Sachin's family members.
In response, Sachin Bansal and his family members filed petitions before the High Court of Karnataka under the Code of Criminal Procedure. Ultimately, the complaint and the FIR were quashed by the orders of the High Court of Karnataka in August and September 2021.
Subsequently, Priya Bansal filed a special leave petition before the Supreme Court of India, challenging the earlier order by the High Court of Karnataka. However, this petition was dismissed by the Supreme Court of India on March 11, 2022.
